MAMM&MJ - Managing Audiovisual Mass Media (governance, funding and innovation) and Mobile Journalism

Description
The evolution of the World Wide Web, the changes imposed by the phenomenon of digitalization and the development of information technologies have impacted sensitively on mass media. In fact, the speed with which the Internet has been hosted in the cultural consumptions have fed up the structural crisis of the media, which have been obliged to conceive converging alternatives in order to survive and keep their position in the media landscape.
The emergence of new technologies caused a redefinition of the audiovisual service model, and at the same time, generated an important change of user’s behavior -from a passive mass audience to interactive individual-, which has enhanced the challenges for both public and private broadcasters.
However, while private television companies are increasing their value and relevance within the digital scenario, the management, governance, funding, innovation and quality of the European public broadcasting is more questioned than ever.
This workshop is an open proposal to the research, study, and discussion on the management of mass media and media organizations (public and private), corporative communication, regulation and self-regulation policies, creativity, production, and content flow. Its aim is to collect the current scientific research and reflections on managing mass media that are being produced in the Universities and the professional communication organizations. For that reason, this congress will welcome contributions from any scholar in the fields of communication and journalism in their broadest disciplinary and interdisciplinary sense.
A further aim is to search for relationships and scientific approaches from different geographical locations and fields in order to study a complex scientific phenomenon (the age of convergence) that is causing changes in the media landscape. The focus on cultural and linguistic diversity is due to its goal to connect research and studies that are being developed at Hispanic and European universities, and at Portuguese-speaking institutions, such as those in Portugal, Brazil, and Galicia. The emphasis on a multi-disciplinary approach stems from the wish to reunite all scientific fields that converge in the study of mass media.
The workshop is coordinated by the International Network of Communication Management (XESCOM, R2014/026), supported by the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture, and Academic Management of the Xunta de Galicia (Spain), a national project from the National Programme for Fostering Excellence in Scientific and Technical Research, National Subprogramme for Knowledge Generation about “Indicators related to broadcasters governance, funding, accountability, innovation, quality and public service applicable to Spain in the digital context” (CSO2015-66543-P) and “Mobil Journalism. Model of journalism in an age of mobile media” (CSO2015-64662-C4-4-R ), and an international project from the Prometeo Program, which belongs to the National Secretary of High Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (SENESCYT) of the Ecuadorian government.
