Scope:
Blockchains are distributed ledger technology (DLT) that promote the distribution of an immutable ledger which records transactions. Blockchains ensure both transparency and trust.
In business, a successful relationship runs on trust. Companies establish business connections with well-known partners or set up contracts with intermediaries that build a trustworthy environment. Nevertheless, partners might be unknown and, intermediaries might be unaffordable. Blockchains provide the required trust and bring strategic business value to these settings.
Cryptocurrencies are still the leadership flag for this technology. Bitcoin removed the intermediaries from financial transactions and created a trustworthy environment that allowed unknown parties to interact directly. Currently, there is an increase in the number of Blockchain-based initiatives applied to other business areas such as Healthcare, Government, Automotive and Energy, Supply Chain, among others.
